Victoria has a rich history of producing incredible cycling talent from Torchy Peden to RYDER HESJEDAL. Victoria has produced Olympians, World Champions and continues to be a hot-bed of talent in road, mountain biking and track.

Join us for an evening of cycling legends telling their stories of success and why they think Victoria is so instrumental in developing cycling talent.

 

Presenters

Houshang Amiri

Houshang Amiri has coached Road, Track and MTB athletes at the international level for over 10 years as Head Coach at the National Cycling Center in Victoria BC, and National Coach for the Canadian Cycling Association. He has worked with and assisted Canadian Cyclists to three Olympic Games and 10 UCI World Championships. He coached Erinne Willock, Svein Tuff, Max Plaxton to Road Worlds, and Commonwealth Games finishes in 2010, and coached Devon Smibert /Brain Cowie to achieve a third place finish at the UCI Paralympics Track World Championships in 2009. He currently coaches 2011 Junior National Champion Annie Ewart, who is now competing on the pro circuit. As a Level 4 coach with over 30 years experience, he regularly instructs UCI coaching courses, worldwide. In 2009 he founded the Pacific Cycling Centre in Victoria, BC specializing in personal online and local coaching

Alison Sydor 

Alison is 4x Olympian, winning a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics. She is a 3x World Champion in Mountain bike, 3x overall World Cup champion. A 13x World Championship medallist in Mountain bike and Road. She is a multi-time National Champion in road, mountain bike and cyclocross. Alison has been inducted in the Mountain bike Hall of Fame, order of British Columbia and a graduate from the UVIC in biochemistry.

Erinne Willock

Erinne Willock, based in Victoria, BC has been a Professional Cyclist and a member of the Canadian National Team for 13 years.She started racing in the High School Cycling League at age 14.Because of living on the west coast during the 90’s she competed mostly in mountain biking and her first international race was the Junior Mountain Bike World Championships.However, from 2000 onwards, Erinne became a professional road cyclist and since then has represented Canada at the 2008 Olympics, 2 Commonwealth Games and 9 Road World Championships.At the moment she is also taking interest and representing the Canadian cyclists as the Athletes Representative on both the CCA Athletes Council and the Commonwealth Games Athletes Council

 

Seamus McGrath

Seamus McGrath picked up the relatively new sport of mountain biking in 1991 and instantly got hooked. Seamus entered a few races and started making a name for himself as one of the best young racers in Canada. After a successful junior career, Seamus turned professional at the age of 19. Seamus conducted a very successful professional racing career that spanned 15 years! In that time, he and won two medals at the Commonwealth Games and represented Canada twice at the Olympics.

After retiring in 2010, Seamus has stayed involved with the sport of cycling through coaching, running training camps and organizing cycling events.

Seamus’s most recent project was creating and directing the Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria-Powered by GoodLife Fitness. This is a “gran fondo” style road cycling event held in Victoria BC. 1500 cyclists attended the first edition in 2011.
